My roommate's betta has had a swollen belly for a while now, perhaps 3 weeks and today his swelling was down completely. But at the bottom of the bowl was an unusual looking thing. It was reddish brown and about the size of a small pea. It almost looked like pack intestines with the shaping of it. The fish is back to normal and fine, but the object in the bowl is odd. What could this be? It lives with no other fish and is a male.

probable constipation...probable something not so ordinary. inspect him from above...if the scales do not stand out on end (think of pine cone),we will rule out dropsy for now. an hassle-free thank you to get rid of fluid retention and "loosen" the bowels is the addition of Epsom salts to his tank.won't harm the Betta, any tank friends,or the filtration in any way. i'm use to dosing greater tanks (at a million tblsp to 10g by potential of quantity),so which you will possibly choose the tough equivalent of a million/2 teaspoon to your tank...don't worry approximately being great precise, this is hard to OD this. You replace what you do away with in water variations (it does not evaporate),so the least complicated way may be to combination up a gallon of water/epsom salt dose in a jug and save that available to your water variations for a rapid on an analogous time as. basically different element available could be age appropriate, yet i might attempt the Epsom salt first.it is going to help if it somewhat is a kidney situation additionally...yet won't treatment it.

Sounds like he was constipated and took a major crap, seriously. Your roommate could be over feeding him and that could of caused the constipation. The water could also be too cold and isn't letting him digest his food correctly, their water should be around 82 degrees.
