We've got a 1000yrd rusher. Just shored up our defense with signings of Clements and Lewis. And just picked up a talented wide receiver (Lelie) while dropping a troubled one. With Alex Smith making the strides he did last year, I think the Niners are going to win the division nextyear. Who's with me?

I live im Michigan but im a die hard 9ER fan. i wouldnt say locked but they are dramatically getting better. the seahawks will be a tough team and so will the rams (the cardinals still needs work) but i wouldnt doubt that they will at least winning the NFC West title.

I wouldn't call them a "lock". The Seahawks are still a tough team, and a sweep of them again is not a guarantee, likewise the Rams will not suffer that mid season drought that they had last year. The 49ers NEED to sweep the Cardinals this year, that was just pathetic. And they do have a tough schedule next season, including the Bengals, Ravens, and Steelers.
After last season they did show a lot of improvement, and they do have the tools to once again become a force in the NFC.
It will be a close race again this year, just like the end of last year.

Nope not a lock. The Seahawks should be healthy next year, once the Cardinals shoreup their O-line they could have the best offense in that division and dont count Steven Jackson and the Rams out. The only thing for sure is that the 49ers are in for a lot of competition for the division title.

Wow the Seahawks have the west locked up if you would pick a team. Seahawks have a talented wide receiver core, good QB, MVP running back, and alright O-line. They have a lot better Defense than 49ers. Good linebackers such as Julian Peterson, Lofa Tatupu, and Leroy Hill.

I don't think Frisco's a lock. Arizona got their act together late in the year and they have a pretty good RB (Edge isn't Frank Gore, but he was running for 4 yards a carry following Deuce Lutui's debut on the line). Frisco's got a pretty big advantage at RB, but Arizona outflanks them at QB (Smith's pretty good, but Leinart's on the verge of becoming a superstar in the NFL), at WR (Boldin, Fitz, and Bryant Johnson are the best WR trio in the NFC and rank up with Harrison/Wayne/Stokley or Moorehead and CJohnson/Houshmandzadeh/Henry for best in the NFL). Arizona also remains the better team defensively.

The Cardinals were also 4-2 (or was it 5-1?) in the division, for the best record in NFC West play last year. They were just awful against teams out of their division.

I see Frank Gore winning the League MVP and the Niners going to the NFC Championship, but I see Arizona winning the Division and going to the Super Bowl at their home stadium.

c'mon man I admit i am no niner fan. But i live in the bay area and lets at least keep it real here. They have a great chance of winning the division and an even better chance at getting to the playoffs. That I will give you.

A lock to win the west......no way. Are you forgetting Seattle and St. Louis? Could win the west.....sure. A lock to win......not a chance in hell.

note - Packers are 10-1 against the 49ers with Favre as QB. GO PACK!!!!!

The 49ers have been 5-a million of their branch final year, basically with their basically loss going to Seattle, and the Rams have not better as lots because of fact the 49ers. i think the 49ers will make the playoffs yet I certainly does not wager something on it.

There is no such thing as a lock in football....But I have they have a good chance.........I hope they do....They have alot of young character talent to mix with the old.......They showed some huge potential and huge heart when they beat Denver last game of the season..

As regards to the Card mentioned in the above answers. The only way the Cards will ever be good is if they get a new owner. The only QB that has been able to get them to the playoffs since 1984 was Plummer........

Hells no!!!! The Seahawks should be tough as usual, and the Cards are not gonna be a push-over neither, they just need to get some speed on defence. The 49ers do have a shot too, but i think it'll be a relatively tough division.

Not a chance. Losing Norv hurt and put the team back. You still need work on defense and Smith is a question mark. But you might be better than the Cards, but that is it. The Hawks and by far the RAMS will eat you alive.
