working with red.white, yellow cables.

Yes you need to check the red and white cable.
First check the white and red that connected to the DVD player and make sure it connect to the output and than the TV make sure it connect to the input.

But people usually wrong connect in the DVD player.

A word of caution: Yellow video (composite) is the worst posssible video and CAN'T pass HD signals.
If possible, use HDMI or Component cables (R/G/B) for HD (say, from your Cable DVR) and S-Video for your DVD player. You got the TV, now spend those $20 for decent cables.

A decent ($35) DVD player should have these days both composite, S-Video, and component outputs.

Hi Tammy,

Your Red White Yellow should work. The Red White are your audio and the yellow your video. Make sure you are using the "Output" terminals on the DVD player and plugging them into the "Input" on your television.
