it depends on the instrument and what you will be using it for. You would use different strings on a guitar if you were playing jazz than if you were playing classical guitar.
Some brands make excellent violin strings, but crappy cello strings. Contact the viola professor at your local university, or the principal violist of your local orchestra and ask them what they reccommend for your level of playing and model of viola.
