Safe it is not, but that's the risks you take for downloading illegal stuff so don't don't complaint.

Another thing, I'm sure half or maybe even all here saying NO STOP, ITS NOT SAFE, I'm damn sure you hypocrites use it also.

NO DO NOT USE LIMEWIRE!!!!! If you are not an experienced user, heck even if you are....Limewire is ***NOT** where you want to be downloading stuff from. Like so many others before it, Limewire has become the frontline is a battle against Intertnet Piracy. As such, many policing agencies monitor it's usage and what is being traded. Some will even add "bogus" files renamed to popular songs or movies, which instead contain viruses, or root kits, or keyloggers, etc. If you want a safer alternative, Try using Bit Torrent instead.

Hi Smart,

First Limewire is legal and contains no viruses or adware.

To use Limewire safely and legally is up to you.

What Limewire does is allow you to connect to millions of other computers worldwide. Some of these computers may try to pass a virus to you. As you probably already do be sure you have an anti virus running all the time.

It is illegal to download and use copyrighted software. Everyone thinks of Limewire as a place to download illegal software, music and movies and many do use it for that purpose but there are tons of legal files that you can share and download.

When the software (Lime wire) accesses other peoples computers (peers/hosts) and starts the download of whatever, if there is anything malicious within the the download, you automatically receive that malicious software (virus etc), unless your anti virus picks it up and warns you, your PC will definitely become bogged down with viruses etc, sometimes your anti virus cannot shift such stuff as they nearly always plonk them selves into your system32 folder, you then need to use safe mode to get rid of them, even then safe mode does not allow the removal of some viruses/worms etc, then you have to look around for special removal tools that kill the process and allow the removal, now do you really want to go through all of this for the sake of a few freebies, of course it is up to you, but my advice is uninstall it, do scans to see if there is anything malicious on there, lime wire is known to slow PC performance, but viruses will slow you up as well and do damage.

Limewire is NOT safe. There is a lot of spyware on there. It doesn't come from the Limewire software itself, but from other users. I would stop using it and scan your PC for viruses.

No it is not 100 percent safe, no matter who says it is. You can if you are not careful infect your computer with virus's and spyware. It can slow the internet down if it is running and downloading songs. That happens when eve rmy sister is downloading songs off of it, it slow our whole network in the house done, no matter what computer your on.

It's up to you if you want to get rid of it.

limewire totally messed up my computer!
the guy who fixed it said he'd never seen a virus so bad. i would stay clear.
no matter what software you have to protect against viruses it still doesnt protect against limewire viruses!
it also takes up a lot of room on your computer which is probably why its running so slow x

Oh no, it's not safe at all. First of all everything you download with this is illegal. Second it also downloads viruses into your computer without knowing it. I had this problem and had to get rid of it and get an antivirus. And still some things were left as not everything could be removed.

As soon as you connect to the Internet you open a port on your computer. Download a file and you are inviting something in. Thats it.
