Sure bieng the richest man on Earth has a singular distinction, but really what can you buy with 50 billion that you can't buy with 5? With even more money coming in to him I wonder why he dosen't do more to ease the financial pain of those who have less? If he gave 50% of his current net worth to charity, or to hospitals, or 1 million dollar scholarships to 25,000 low income college students, how much of a difference could it make to our society. Most of us couldn't spend that much money if we had our whole lives to do it. (Although we would try our hardest) But since he was financialy blessed beyond reason, doesn't that give him a responsiblity to the humanity that helped him get there? I am not saying he doesn't deserve it, after all he didn't inherit it, or marry it, he worked his butt off for it. But still, don't you think a man that has more money than most countries should do more for his countrymen. Tell Matticus, he WANTS to KNOW.

Matticus,
Actually Bill Gates is VERY generous. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the largest private philanthropic entity in the U.S. if not the world. He donates like 50-60% of his yearly income.
Bill plans to step down as CEO of Microsoft next year to devote himself full-time to philanthropy.
I may not like his marketing tactics, and we might even argue he could do more, but he is doing a LOT more than most rich people.
And he's encouraging other billionaires to ante up. Last year Warren Buffet gave $40 billion to the foundation.

I believe that he's in the process of giving away much more than 50% of his money. He has partially retired from Microsoft to run a non-profit organization that he and his wife started, and they have recently received a donation of about 30 billion dollars from the billionaire Buffett, to help.
Where does the money go? Right now a lot of it goes to africa and some projects he thinks will work. No matter what you might think of him, surely we can agree that he is very brilliant- maybe a little crooked and a quick to release a disfunctional windows, but brilliant- and he's got all the money in the world to try out his opinions on how to fix it- and that's what he's doing right now.

About Bill Gates:
1. Bill Gates earns US$250 every SECOND, that's about
US$20 Million a DAY and US$7.8 Billion a YEAR!
2. If he drops a thousand dollar, he won't even bother
to pick it up bcoz the 4 seconds he picks it, he
would've already earned it back.
3. The US national debt is about 5.62 trillion,
if Bill Gates were to pay the debt by himself;
he will finish it in less then 10 years.
4. He can donate US$15 to everyone on earth but
still be left with US$5 Million for his pocket money.
5. Michael Jordan is the highest paid athlete in
US. If he doesn't drink and eat, and keeps up his annual income i.e. US$30 Million, he'll have to wait for 277 years to become as rich as Bill Gates is now.
6. If Bill Gates was a country, he would be the
37th richest country on earth.
7. If you change all of Bill Gate's money to US$1 notes,
you can make a road from the earth to moon, 14 times back and forth. But you have to make that road non-stop for 1,400 years, and use a total of 713 BOEING 747 planes to transport all the money.
8. Bill Gates is 40 this year. If we assume that
he will live for another 35 years, he has to spend US$6.78 Million per day to finish all his money before he goes to heaven.
Last but not least...... If Microsoft Windows' users can claim US$1 for every time their computers hang because of Microsoft Windows, Bill Gates will be bankrupt in 3 years!

Microsoft and its over rated employees and products are under taxed. I wonder what Hughy Long would think of Micro soft.
Y2K was a scam propagated by Microsoft to make more money off the yuppie population. Nothing ever happened, my computor kept on working and the date progressed the way it should.
Software companys are the only companies that PLAN on there stuff not working right, thats where they make most of their money.

This is not fair. These works cause gap between society's people.
But to be philosophical, I must say human is so, the feeling of extending the capital (properties, money etc) is always with human.

First of all, it's not any one persons responsibility to fix the problems of the world. Second, he and his wife plan to give away 95% of their wealthy by the time they die. So what was your question again?
