Hello Everyone =) I am 12 years old and I don't like being home alone at night time. I don't know why though. It seems most kids my age love to be away from home or home alone. But I really don't. Can anyone tell me what I could do to help me or something

P.S. My mom already knows that I don't like it

Believe me, I know how you feel and I'm a grown up. Even though I live in a safe neighborhood and I know that it'll be fine, sometimes I don't like being home alone at night either. Not always, but sometimes-- especially on stormy nights or when I can't sleep. It can be scary! And, let's not forget all of the movies we've watched where bad things happen to people home alone. We've been conditioned to not like it.

I'm glad you told your mom you don't like it--- I hope she can help you with some ideas to make it easier for you.

I really advise you to face your fear a little bit... try staying home alone for short periods of time (like a half an hour) and gradually increasing it. But, at 12 yrs old you shouldn't have to spend a whole night alone-- that's too scary and you're not old enough yet. Also-- make sure you have stuff to do that will pass the time-- a non-scary movie to watch, video games, homework etc. that you can let yourself get wrapped up in. One key is to not watch the clock-- keep yourself occupied.

Also, when I'm home alone I leave lots of lights on. Pretty much one in every room. And, I always have the phone nearby in case I need to call a friend.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

wow, for a 12 year old that is scared of being alone, you sure have a very nice vocabulary, more of an adult vocabulary, actually, i don't even see too many adults use such an extended vocabulary

if you are a 12 year old for real then here is some advice, turn the television on and stay away from the computer when you are alone, and especially don't ever ever under any circumstances tell anyone no matter what that you are alone or how old you are or what your name is or where you live or anything, no matter what, ever ever

if you are not a 12 year old like i suspect, and are actually a police sting operation going after the bad guys, then yea, good job, but do everyone a favor, stop using grown up vocabulary and actually write like a 12 year old would, you might catch more bad guys out there, and hey, good work

i'm sorry your mom still has to leave you alone sometimes and i am really sorry that you are frightened. i have to tell you something that will make you laugh........i'm quite old, but still scared to be alone. heres some ideas for you to try! before your mom leaves, you check and make sure all the doors and windows are locked. when she goes out you'll lock the door behind her and you know you are safe locked in your house.
if you are nervous maybe you would feel better if you close all the curtains so no one can see in, and you can't see out! it always makes me feel cosier, warmer, and safer with them closed.
your mom probably tells you not to answer the door, so don't. if you have call display on the phone you know who is calling and if you can answer it. if not, just don't answer the phone. sometimes i even take the phone off the hook so it won't ring. i always leave the lights on! in every room! i also have the television on......even if i am not watching it.....its company! and its always on a comedy show! and ice cream! ice cream and rice krispies squares really help! sometimes chocolate or fudge help! maybe mom would allow you to have a friend over?
this is so silly but i'm going to tell you anyway......i always take the phone with me where ever i go in the house. we only have one phone and its a cordless so if i go to the washroom, i take the phone, if i go to the kitchen i take the phone, if i go to bed, i take the phone, and i never go in the basement just because its creepier than the rest of the house and why freak myself out? of course our basement isn't finished, it is just a basement, not with a great family room or anything, if we had that i would probably go down there if i wanted.
anyway even though i know there is nothing to be afraid of, or nervous about, all these things help me feel more secure when i am home alone and i hope they help you!
take care and if you are something does happen to scare you then you know to call 999 or whatever your emergency number is and ask the police for help.
hope this helps you little one!
cheers

Hey lil dude... can you call a friend and keep them on the phone with you. Listen to music and/or TV which helps you to not here all the creepy lil sounds. Can you have a friend over? Can you go stay at a friends sometimes, so it's not as often that you're left alone. Do you play online video games,if so.... do you have a head set so you have peeps to talk to and keep you company? Got any hobbies you can get involved in?
These are some of the things I used to do home alone at your age.

Sierra Blue has given you sound advise so I shall say little more. I know my grandkids will give me a call if they're are home alone and we chat. I call them back often and sometimes we play each other on MSN. Have you spoken to Dad about your feelings of fear? Maybe between the two of them a plan to make you feel secure can be worked out. Good luck

maybe you could ask to have a friend spend the night or you could spend the night with a friend. Or a grandparent or other relative. You actually should not be home alone at 12.

Watch TV, it's mind-numbing.
Turn the radio on low and read a book or something.
Can't you stay at a friend's house?

Maybe they'd let you get a cat or a dog?
It's a lot less lonely with an animal around!
