No. There is no reason to smoke weed.

Yeah, probably so.

Skipper, I don't believe there is any reason to eat pancakes. They are way to high in carbohydrates, and they lead people to use syrup.

If I get enough people to believe me, should they be illegal? I would guess you would say no.

" Also, most kids who start with weed move on to other drugs. "

Sodagoat, care to quantify that remark with facts? Whether weed is bad or not is not relevant. Weed is bad for you, alcohol is bad for you, etc, etc.

What is relevant is whether, as a free man, I own my own body. If I am not interfering in the rights of others, should I be able to do as I wish? The answer, of course, is YES!!!!!!

NO absolutely not. It gives the wrong message to kids everywhere, that it's perfectly ok to kill brain cells (and to those who disagree, it DOES kill brain cells, you need only meet my stoner brother to see that). Also, most kids who start with weed move on to other drugs. Weed IS a drug with short and long term side effects on your body, as well as being a gateway drug in many cases.

Decriminalizing pot was one of the most moronic things the Canadian gov't has ever done. Instead of keeping a strong stand and fighting the problem, they're choosing to roll over and look the other way. Just because there is a large demand for something (prostitution and hard-core porn also come to mind), does not automatically mean that is is right, or that it should be accepted as the norm. Just because it is difficult to stand up for what is right does not mean that you should back down and give up! We need more money and effort (and much harsher punishments) to be poured into getting and keeping drugs off our streets. We need to do more in the way of prevention (such as talking more to our kids about drugs, and getting rid of the stupid idea that it's "normal" and ok for kids to even try drugs once - "only once" with cocaine can be enough to get you hooked or to kill you). We also need to be cracking down much harder to get people with drug convictions locked up as well as researching/ implementing more effective and long-term rehab facilities.

Marijuana ripped apart my family, probably forever. My 18 year old brother is a addict of 6 years who is now a compulsive liar and thief - whatever it takes to cover up or support his habit. He used to be a really bright kid, but has slowly morphed into a drooling moron. His claims to fame now are a Grade 9 education, inability to hold down a job, involvement in crime and gangs, an arrest warrant on his head, and a glorious and fulfilling life on the street! I have not even talked to him for years, nor do I want to. I am pregnant, and my husband and I are going to have to figure out whether it will ever be safe for my brother to meet his niece or nephew - a sad thought.

Legalizing weed will not prevent tragedies like my brother's from happening. It may even make them more common, since studies have found that the amount of overall drug use (all drugs, not just pot), and drug experimentation in countries such as Holland that have legalized marijuana have greatly increased in the years since the legalization took place. Slapping minimum ages on other harmful products such as cigarettes and alcohol is largely ineffective (teen stats these days are scary), so there is no reason to believe that legalizing and "controlling" weed will somehow lessen the number of stoners out there. All it will do it put more money in gov't pockets, which is, of course, why they want to do it in the first place.

at the very least it should be decriminalized. I'd vote for it being legal
