I need a good explanation, it's extra credit in my science class if i can figure out why it's "p" and i can't seem to find it any where.

mass is measured in pounds therefore:

p represents pounds

Is'nt the symbol for mass "m"
PS "p" doesn't represent pounds its "lb" Mass is a totally different subject from weight.

anyways I think you were mistaken, unless I was, who knows?

Because is long ago england they caculated mass in pounds, also... m is used for the symbol of slope... of not it is used because it meant some crazy word in latin that means mass
