what are some tricks to keep yourself calm before giving a big speech?

First of all you need to know your speech, once your confident in knowing your own work then from there it gets easier. Practice infront of a mirror, or with friends you feel comfortable with. Imagine when your up there that your some kind of superhero chosen to do the speech, it might sound stupid but if u imagined that nobody in the audience was capable of what your doing it boosts your ego dramatically. It helps to have some eye contact, so if you recognize anybody there smile if need be. Or just tell your friends to sit in the front line, that way you feel supported the entire time.

Drink water before getting on to make sure your voice isnt scratchy, and remember that is the president of USA can make repeated public speeches (with that many mistakes) anyone is capable sweatheart;)

Breath deeply, be completely prepared, know your stuff! When you are confident about what you are giving your speech about, you will do better.

Focus on something at the back of the room or on a close friend who you are comfortable with. If you feel anxiety starting, stop talking, take a deep breath and start talking once again. I find a little humor does help.

If you can, be one of the first ones to do your speech. Everyone else is probably as worried as you are, remember that before you go up there. You look more confident that you feel. Everyone always told me that also. It is true.

Well once i had to meet with the president of my company in 1 on 1 meeting. Pretend that guys in the room have small penis and women are fat(self estime issues). Hope it helps. U will feel more confident
