The Buffalo Sabres were the surprise team of the 05-06 season making it to the Conference Finals only to lose to the future Cup winner the Hurricanes. So with that in the back of your mind do you think they can do it again? I do. I live in Buffalo currently and have become a die hard hockey fan since I moved but I know that sports in Buffalo have always been a little jinxed. No goal, Wide Right, the list goes on but is this the year? As of now we have 6 players injured including RW star Maxim Afinogenov who has a broken wrist and star C Tim Connolly who suffered a concussion last year. So with all of our injuries you think we would be losing right? Wrong. The Sabres have been pulling up players from Rochester and wow have they played fantastic. Drew Stafford for example has been an amazing player and is now on a 5 game point streak. The Sabres are currently (as of March 6th) tied in 1st place with Nashville with 93 points and have a 44-16-5 record. So my question is, Can They Do It?

I love my Sabres, but I've lived in the Buffalo area for my entire life and I know better than to even THINK anything about our sports teams doing something amazing, because that's enough to invoke the jinx. No matter what happens in the playoffs, the team has been spectacular this year and it has been (and I anticipate will be for some time to come) a joy to watch them play. If Ryan Miller goes down, though, all bets are off. Ty Conklin couldn't stop a beach ball from going into a shot glass.

I definitely think that Buffalo can do it. I'm a bit biased because I'm originally from Buffalo, living in Florida. But the fact that Buffalo has 6 players injured and the players from Rochester have done such a great job, I feel real good about it. And just think, when we get some players off of injured reserve and they're back in the lineup, even if it's just a few, we'll be that much better. Not to mention the fact that we have many goal scorers. We don't have to worry that a "star" player may get injured and then we'll be in trouble. You have some players on other teams that carry the hwole team. Our defense could use a little work, but our offense makes up for it. Buffalo deserves a championship team. The Sabres are looking real good. Go Buffalo!

Beginning of the season I thought they were just on a tear because of the eastern finals but, then November came around, then December...Jan....Feb.....Mar......then all the injuries and there still scoring 5 or 6 goals a game and winning with Rochester kids! Lindy Ruff is unbelievable and if the Sabres don't win it this year it will be a terrible disappointment! As far as Ottawa beating Buffalo in the playoffs, they are just not deep enough i don't think they will last a 7 game series against Buffalo. but, I am worried about New Jersey only because Marty Brodeur never seems to get old and is having a career year!
Go Buffalo Americans! (Sabres)

Well, you guys do have a really good team, and you should do good as long as you do not run into Ottawa in the playoffs. Ottawa is sick of their "not so good" playoff runs and if Ottawa and Buffalo play each other in the playoffs, they just might bloody each other up too bad. Of course they would not bloody themselves up too bad, but it would be an interesting series.

what a great question!! but i think you answered it yourself...our amerks guys are doin so well. i mean drury (our freakin co-captain) goes down and we win then briere and drury are out that one game...and we still win. stafford is doin so great. what does it take to win the cup...basically you have to win 4 out of 7 games against any one team. what team in the nhl could beat us 4 out of 7 times?!?!?!?! no one! and zubrus is not a bad addition and kaleta, i really like his play. now we've got drury back for the game vs. the avs tonite and spacek i believe should b back within 7-10 days. we're goin all the way

I think they can do it. As long as the same thing doesn't happen this year that happened last year. At the end of the season and going into the playoffs they had too many injuries, too much to overcome.

As long as Miller stays healthy and stops all the soft goals he's been letten up all season. We'll see.
