Can a fever really cook your brain? i.e. you have a fever but your body feels cold so you stay under the blankets you feel comfortable but to others your body's on fire. Can this fry your brain?

It would take a high degree of fever to do that kind of damage. Actually, in the training that I have received, it has been said not to lower a fever until 103 degrees. A fever is the bodies natural way to "burn" up bacteria and other germs.

Technically, yes.

Having shivers has nothing to do with your internal body temperature when you're unwell. Get a good digital thermometer and keep an eye on things. If you think you're in danger, go to the ER or call 911.
