4 good years of high school. Acceptance and graduation from a 4 year college/university. An additional year in case you didn't take all the necessary subjects to begin with. Residency. (2-3 yrs), and proof that you can get hired.

According to the US Dept of Labor:

How long? 11-16 years:
4 years of undergraduate school,
4 years of medical school, and
3 to 8 years of internship and residency, depending on the specialty selected.

Good luck!

It will take at least eight years. There are four years undergrad and then four years in med school. After that comes internships and residency programs before you really practice on your own.

4 year college, 8 year medical school, and then more schooling.

Not only that, you CANNOT even preform a sugery until you have had 14 years of practice, not including schooling!
