Hard to top xcess's answer. Right on.

I would add that technically speaking, the Honda is deficient because it is not a real truck, made with body mounted to a rigid frame, but it is instead made like a car, with a unibody. This will not stand up to real heavy use like an American pickup will. It will also give you a much smaller towing capacity, if that interests you.

The best trucks made are the new GM pickups, Chevy Silverado and GMC's similar model. State of the art, great gas mileage for a real truck, beautiful interiors. Car & Driver rates them #1 among crew cab pickups.

IF you want a TRUCK, that's what to buy.

The Ridgeline has been the vehicle that Honda shouldn't have built to start with, it has effectively them very negatively for various reasons.

Supposedly their first sales predictions were for about 50K units, and it turns out they have only been selling at half that, with discounts.

The reason for this is that Body On Frame trucks (real trucks), use a much more inexpensive architecture. While "Unibody" (like cars) such as the Ridgeline, cost much more to produce. Require more insulation to quiet it, plus much more steel to make it strong for the needs it might have. And reality, it's a modified Accord platform, overburdened for truck duty.

Now, because of these issues, the truck needs to sell over $30K prices because it's costlier to produce. This hasn't allowed Honda to post decent sales because majority of F-150's/Silverados sell under that amount. Plus they are willing to discount. So Honda had to start that route as well.

It has also dragged down Honda reliability ratings. Some of the long-term organizations have had major issues with it. I believe Edmunds had one where they took it off road, and all shocks broke on it. Many other people have reported water leaks, body integrity, and interior execution below average.

And because it won truck of the year according to NAIAS or Motortrend or whomever doesn't help it much since it was really the only other truck out there, that was somethign "fresh" at the time...there weren't any other trucks introduced at the time to make for much of a competition for it.

Hope this helps...

i think it's a great first attempt by Honda for a truck, but they've a long way to go to compete with fellow japanese trucks like the titan and tundra. and even with the big three's big trucks. once diesel engines become more popular and placed into all trucks from smallest to largest then honda will have a great shot if they too have that engine. it has alot of nifty features like the bed storage trunk and dual swing tailgate and good design.

If you are a woman it is fine. If you are a heterosexual male then expect to feel like a wuss when you park next to a real truck. Quality is typical Honda..very good. My opinion is that they are expensive and you could buy more vehicle for the same money. They are also UGLY... all the sex appeal of a rainy Tuesday in Cleveland.

I'm so glad you came out of the closet sir. The only people interested in Ridgelines are autistic women, and homosexuals.

This is fact, not my opinion.
Hope it helps.
