Why can't NFL stadiums hold 100 thousand fans? Why college, and not the pros? I don't get it.

The NFL runs itself on the principles of Socialism. All teams share all proceeds, so teams set ticket prices too low, causing demand to be far too high (thus why scalpers are able to make such high profits off NFL tickets). Its the exact same reason why they build smaller stadiums than Colleges do. NFL teams don't have any incentive to build a massive stadium, so they don't do so. This causes the NFL to be less profitable as a league than it should be and is the reason why baseball players make more than football players. Colleges, while they get away with exploiting their players (partially thanks to the NFL's cooperation in not drafting players for 3 years after graduation from high school), still have strong incentives to maximize their revenues (so they can pay ever higher salaries to their professors without raising college tuition as much as they'd otherwise have to).

However, its fortunate in a way that NFL teams don't build bigger stadiums. They always go to the local government asking for them to pay for the stadium, leaving the residents of the city they play in to foot the bill.

Most college teams can fill a 100 thousand plus stadium thanks to alumni, currently enrolled students, not to mention the fans they draw from around the nation just thanks to the name of the school. Pros on the other hand seem to have a hard time consistently filling there 80 thousand seats due to either record or poor opponent. NFL "fans" can lose interest fast if there team is on a losing skid.

Many college stadiums were built long ago with less room between rows. They don't build them that way any more with revised building codes for accessibility. Also the seating alot of times is still the bleacher seating and not individual chairs.
The aisles are now required to be wider which probably reduces a couple of hundred seats right there.

the pro stadiums have luxury suites that take up room. also, it would be hard to fill the seats up every game. with college, the fans are more loyal. they follow their teams all over the country. you might be in a stadium where you see almost half of the seats filled with opposing colors. this rarely happens in pro sports.

because the colleges have to sell tickets to both the alumni and booster clubs. there are so many people involved in one college football teams financial situations that they need all those seats to make sure their money keeps on coming in. for instance penn state has a stadium of over 100,000 fans. they are also one of the most followed football teams in the nation. while the pros only have to depend on the owner of the team for financial situations.
