Does anyone work at Barnes and Noble or even Borders as a shelver? I'm starting a job as a shelver at Barnes and Noble on Monday. What kind of work does it entail? I know that I have to put books on shelves, but can anyone go into depth?

Hey there! I was a shelver at a Barnes and Noble for 6 months and loved every minute of it. I only quit because they merged my department with the cashiers and didn't need us any longer. Was one of my favorite jobs I ever had. I didn't even mind lugging the heavy books around. You put them up usually by author, and the same books go together. They don't like them when one is misplaced, doesn't look very nice. I still find that when I go to my local one here that I sometimes place books back where they belong lol. Enjoy working at Barnes and Noble, and if they ever ask you to volunteer to be a character for the kiddos, do it, it is so much fun!

I did this job at Books-A-Million. It's really simple and repetitive. The only problem is, while you're trying to put books on the shelf you're going to have about a million people come up to you and ask you where to find something. Also, at the end of the night you'll have to find all the books that people left laying around and put them back on the shelf. Sometimes that takes a really long time, especially the magazines!!
