Single parent homes are so common these days that it makes no difference whatesoever. There are several things that serve to admit/reject applicants for university seats ... the marital status of the parents is not one of them. I can't ever remember anybody being interested in the matter when I was present during meetings of admissions boards....in fact the matter was never mentioned.

I highly, highly doubt it especially if you are talking about a very selective university/college. What I would suggest is if you have an "overcome" story due to being from a single parent household, focus on that. A lot of schools are looking for fantastic stories about people who have overcome obstacles.

Ummm... I highly doubt it. It matters what type of admission/acceptance factors they have and what importance. They might look at minority status and character/personal qualities but I don't think they look at the single parent home box.
