Prismacolor comes in 2 qualities, Scholar is for students and Premier is a more professional quality - Premier is softer and more pigmented.

My personal experience with both - Spectracolor pencils have more pigment and less wax ... meaning they are softer and don't leave a shiny waxy finish like Prismacolor does when you use heavy layers. Spectracolor pencils are almost erasable.

What ever you use, have fun!

i think Prismacolor is better, but it really depends on the effect you want and your overall style. Prismacolor pencils are more waxy but they blend well( like for oceans/sunsets/etc), Spectracolor pencils tend to be better for minute textures like skin. if you care more about the effect of your work you can even mix the two or look into other brands when necessary.

Speaking from the view of an art student at the moment, I would have to say that Prismacolor always wins. They blend extremely well, and although they are pretty expensvie, the price is worth the almost oil-pastel quality results.
