The fact that most of them increase suicidal thoughts in teens and children really point to NO.

Besides, what are we teaching our children--that there's a pill for everything?

Depression isn't a new thing--the drugs are. We survived hundreds of years without them. Why would we want to overdrug our children for an overdiagnosed condition?

It is up for debate. I don't think they have been around long enough to provide all of the possibilities. There have been many media examples of teens being taken off of their anti-depressant meds and committing suicide shortly after. I don't know what side you are going to take, become passionate and go on webmd or some other medication website to know the possible negative side-effects of antidepressants. The more informative and complete you are in your research the better grade you will get. Look up Merck, Pfizer and anti-depressants and you should find a ton of useful information.

I am not going to your paper for you and half the ability to take a side is to find what information is presented. My opinion is that their is NO WAY a child should be taking any psychotropics drug. There bodies are not fully developed and their ability to reason is clouded when taking these medications. Tom Cruise was an advocate for children in this fight and I firmly believe that the parents are to blame for any child's emotional instability. Psychiatrists are paid, by the hospital, to administer medication and they make more money by prescribing higher doses or type's of doses so you can see where the child is not the main concern.

I was a child, having to take anti-depressants since age 5 because it helped me focus in school & it helped my temper, & it also helped me get along better with others.
