I saw a person pay for a truckload of groceries with a foodstamp card, yet they paid cash for beer & cigarettes! Has the system gone astray?

I think the system has gone astray. I've seen people in line paying for steak and shrimp with food stamps while those of us who work hard for our money buy hamburger and chicken. They were also wearing designer clothes and gold jewelry. The whole system needs to be reformed.

Yep. The system was put into place to help people. The problems began when people learned how to abuse the system. It infuriates me to see someone use foodstamps, then load their free groceries into a car nicer than mine. I take comfort in the fact that I work hard and I am rewarded accordingly. I'm proud of the things my husband and I have accomplished and it's all us. We haven't used anyone, so we owe noone.

I think that you can only buy food with food stamps.Beer and cigarettes are not considered food. But yes I think the system is wack.It sucks having to pay for your own groceries when other people don't have to worry about it.They get free food basically from us ,our taxes.

Blame the Democrats.

I saw a similar thing once in my home state of California. The welfare people all live in this apartment complex and they party at night and sleep in the day time.

Can you imagine what the janitor of the place feels when he works hard for his salary but sees a bunch of bums loafing off of the system?

You can't buy beer or cigarettes with food stamps. They're only allowed to buy food. If the person wants anything else they have to pay cash, just because they're on food stamps doesn't mean they can't drink beer or smoke cigarettes. Food stamps don't pay for pet food either, so if a person is on food stamps does that mean they can't have pets? or smoke? or have a beer? come on get real, people have the right to live their lives the way they want.

Food stamps pay for FOOD. Get it? FOOD stamps?

Any other products, like soap, deodorant, or cleaning supplies has to be bought with regular money, like cash or a debit/credit card.

Vices also have to be bought with cash.

What did you think food stamps were for?

I'm a little surprised at your question. How else would the "system" work?

No, it's always been that way. Food stamps don't pay for alcohol or cigarettes. I guess they have to supply their own money to support their addictions.
