I always use to see signs in stadiums saying NO PEPPER. I always thought to myself, "How's putting ground pepper on their hot dog?" Of course now I know it's some sort of game, but I don't know how you play it or what is involved. Also why would they ban it in baseball stadiums?

it's more of a drill that teaches hand/eye coordination. Players stand in about a 10' dia. circle. One player is the hitter and he hits the ball that is thrown to him on the ground to the other players. Being that the players are so close, you need to really keep your eye on the ball and be quick to catch it.

Pepper is a game that involves just one batter at a time. In front of the batter are as many other players as you want in the game or as few. They line up side by side in front of you forming a wall. One person holds a ball and tosses it toward you to hit back them. It doesnt matter who holds the ball. The object for the hitter is to put the ball on the ground as many times as he can without popping it up in fair territory. If the hitter pops it up and one of the guys catch it, he is automatically the hitter and the hitter goes to the back of the line. Usually the hitter can get out by missing the ball 3 times or putting it foul. As for it being banned in stadiums, i've never seen that sign posted anywhere. Then again, ive only been in four stadiums.

Pepper is a common pre-game exercise in baseball, where one player bunts brisk ground balls and line drives to a group of fielders who are standing close by. The fielders try to make a play on the ball, and throw it back as quickly as possible. The batter then attempts to hit the return throw, and so on.

Some ballparks have banned pepper games because of the danger of balls landing in the stands and injuring spectators. Some of these stadiums may display a "NO PEPPER" warning on the edges of the field near the stands.

According to Wikipedia, the batters bunt or hit line drives in batting practice to a group of fielders who then throw the ball back to the the batter, who bunts/hits it back to them. According to wikipedia, it is banned becuase of potential injury to spectators.
