You need to do a guage swatch.

Example:
Using a size "I" hook and worsted weight yarn, do a square that is 12 sc wide x 15 rows tall. This should be a 4 inch square when finished.
so if 12 stitches=4inches, and 15 rows=4 inches
for an 80 inch wide X 90 inch tall you would do an equation as follows:
80/4·12=240 stitches by 90/4·15=337.5 rows
So for this guage you would do 240 stitches by about 338 rows.
You can plug in your own numbers using my example to get the right numbers for your pattern.

Try this - I think it will give you the answer. Take the yarn that you plan to use and the size crochet hook you want to use and make you a test square (say 6" X 6"). Then measure it - count the stitches on each side divided by the size you want and you should have your answer. Good Luck!!

do a swatch, chain about 20 stitches, then crochet about 20 rows. measure how many stitches and how many rows in 4 inches, divide by 4, and then figure out from there. you can either pull out the swatch to use the yarn (frog it[rip it, rip it]) or save the swatch to add to your crochet journal.
really the stitch amount depends on your yarn choice and your needle choice, if you have the label for your yarn, it should have the gauge on the label, (stitches per inch)

My thought is 2700 stitches since 80 x 90 is 2700.
