The modern theory of evolution is founded on Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection.

Natural selection states that traits which are favourable or have a survival advantage will come to dominate over successive generations.

It states that animals adapted to their environment and eventually evolved into a different species. It also says something about mutations in one specie's DNA that caused it to become a different species. That could work. I guess. But there is one thing that the theory of evolution cannot explain. I found a loophole in this one. Ok, We evolved from monkeys or rats or something that evolved from bacteria that evolved from archea. Where did the Archea come from? "Well, it may have come from a meteor and was brought to this planet from some other planet". That's what the scientists say. Now think of this. Wouldn't the bacteria burn up in the atmosphere upon impact? If they did live, what did they evolve from and how did that evolve from something else? It all has to come down to inanimate objects or abiotic factors, which cannot happen. You can't make amoebas from a rock can you? That is what's wrong with evolution. It all comes down to some sort of intelligent design. It cannot happen without some sort of God creating us.

Simply, the theory states that living things change over time. When enough time progresses, species evolve into new species.

The process of change is through natural selection.

PBS has a great series on Evolution. You might be able to get it from a local library. Check it out.

It's a pretty fascinating science when you ignore the politics.
