I work at The Gold Coast. It is not downtown, great gaming, cheap drinks when your not playing, and easy comps. We are right across the street from the Palms, but about half the cost of The Palms. Check out www.goldcoastcasino.com.
And we have the best bar department!!!!! (not to brag!)

It isn't downtown.....I know that much. I would try the Orleans which is also not on strip but owned by same company that owns Gold Coast. I know people love the Orleans, both locals and gamers that travel there. The Orleans has $35 a night for that week of Memorial day til the 1st of June. It is on their site.

The Gold Coast has a few very good points. The free shuttle to the strip>only takes about 4-5 minutes and runs from 9am-Midnight. They have a nice food court, the buffet is okay, but not as good as the Orleans. The rooms are a little nicer than a motel six but are not opulent by any means, though they do have 32in plasma screen TV's.

They have some very good video poker, if, you like to play 9/6 JOB(99.54%) and the cash back on their slot club is .3% which is very high, most LV casinos CB is now .1% or less. They do offer "double" point days, usually around holidays and during the month of December. They also offer 1,000 points for new slot club sign ups(so sign up for separate accounts>this will also get you two offers instead of one for 2 free nights in the future!>you might as well get 4 free nights as opposed to 2, right). They also give you an extra 1,000 points if you play during the month of your birth. You do earn points on a "coin out" rather than "coin in" system. You get one point for every $1 "won" not "played" it evens out, but you rack up a lot more points when your winning obviously. 4,000 points is worth $12 in cash back or comps, your choice>I prefer the cash thank you, unless they offer a bonus to use your points for the buffet or some such(which does happen)

It's very easy to earn free nights at the Gold Coast. Coast casinos seem to prefer a "stay" and play over the player who drops by to play, for some reason. 2,500 points earned(each) per day should get you offers of 2 free nights(each) serveral times per year. Average VP play is around 800 hands per hour, so, 2-3 hours of play each, should get you on their marketing radar for future offers>Of course if you play more, offers increase based on that play. It seems to take 10K per day though for free weekends.>Whatever you do, don't chase comps, please play within your comfort level.

The Gold Coast does have a lot of $5 minimun table games, but none lower than that. The Orleans is the GC sister property and they have a free shuttle from one to the other, if you like to play Texas Hold'em or Pai Gow Poker the Orleans is a great place for both. The Orleans has more Pai Gow Poker tables at the $5 level than any casino in LV, and they do not "jack" the minimums up on Fri/Sat nights like most casinos. >Your coast slot club card is good at both locations>Though if you jump back and forth from the Orleans to Gold Coast you may have to drop by the slot club to have them reset your card(you don't lose any points) >

you can keep up with the latest slot club promotions at this site>also has a list of all the "full pay" video poker in Las Vegas

We usually spend at least a couple weeks a year at the Orleans>out of the 4-6 we spend in LV yearly>This year we are already booked for 10 nights at the Gold Coast, and looking forward to the stay.

I beleive this is in downtown las Vegas, not on the Strip,, more info here at their web page, cheaper gambling than most on the main strip(likely to find $1-2 dollars tables)-

all the coast and station casinos are great . Stations are a little better though like the palace station boulder station and i cannot remenber the other names . I would actually suggest the palace station they cater moreto your needs and it is easier to win .
