In the media and every where esle when someone things of a black person they see guns, pimps, gangs, rapping, loud people etc its really sad.. cause i am none of these things, i dont even like rap music and im black O.o im really shy and quite, i like rock music and dance and i only like to date white guys.I am proud of my race and who i am, i am like this becoz i just AM! im not trying to be anyone else but me. It annoys me when people say i should be some sort of pimpette.
But I believe the way the media protrays black people has made a race stereotype,do you agree?

I think the media certainly helps harbor stereotypes, but they've taken things that happen in the real world and just magnified and glorified them. It's unfortunate but every race has some kind of stereotype attached to it. I'm a single white female who lives in the suburbs, so I'm expected to be spoiled, kinda nerdy, have no ability to dance, and be kinda slutty. And of course, I walk a fine line bordering on being white trash.
We all deal with stereotypes and discrimination. It's unfortunate, but I think the best way to handle it is live your life your way and pay no attention to any of the stereotypes.

Hi,
I am mexican and I also have to deal with stereotypes, I also think is sad cause it is so superficial, about the black culture in my heart Ive always tought about blacks as very strong becasue you've had to deal with so much injustice.
Im sorry you have to deal with the bad stereotypes, hope you find a supportive group of people that will see you for what you really are.

No. I don't agree. I think that is your perception of what's going on. You can date who you want, listen to what you like. It's alright. That's you. I'm Black, educated, and proud of my background as well. I've never lived my life according to what someone thought I should do. I've never folded to stereotypes. i don't know anyone who has. It seems to me that you may have without realizing it. You are the one concerned about people's opinion of you. Probably because of your choice of lovers or music. Keep your head up Sister. Believe in God and He'll pull you through.

Yes, I think so. We can't just blame the media, though. People buy the rappers' albums and watch their music videos with pimps in them, and gang membership is often glorified. It would help if these audiences would stop supporting these things.

Yes I do agree but you and other Black Americans need to understand we only have ourselves to blame.
The media thrives on controversy and making groups of people look bad so, WHY call negative attention to ourselves by doing these things.
All black people are NOT loud, on welfare, and having babies out of wedlock.
Not ALL black people forget consonants in words.
Not ALL black people disrespect each other by calling another out of their name.
We need to stand up and scream "we are not ignorant and no one will make us so"

you couldn't be more right. kids grow up and get influenced by the media and peers and feel like they have a obligation to be a certain way. and there are plenty of black people who dont like rap music.

I've seen the "black card" played too many times as an excuse for unruly behavior and therefore they try to say it should be allowed. bullsh*t.
as long as the black culture seems to worship those who call their women by the slang of "HO"....what can respectful people expect?

Maybe it's being stereotyped because a lot of it is true. If it wasin't...it wouldin't be stereotyped so much.
