I just established my company, and I designed a pretty nifty flash website for it. However, I'm also making an html/javascript version for our potential customers who don't have Flash 8. How can I create a mailto link without making the email address easy prey to address-harvesting robots?

there are lots of tricks! I used one on my DOG's site!!

the html says one thing, but the users (via a line of javascript) see and can use a real functional mailto: link!

it's not rocket surgery, but the spammers don't evaluate javascript to steal addresses.

If you are a serious company, you want to hide your email address using a form which is processed on the server side. If you dont know how to code PHP or similar technology... I think it is possible with a service on Bravenet.com.

A second alternative is to install a system which makes people confirm their sending email address. These programs detect an email, stores it on your server for a certain period. It gives the user a chance to confirm their email manually via a return email. If the email is not confirmed it will be deleted and you will not have it clogging up your email account.

Email a random 'hello' email to icann@icann.org click the link that you get back and see which service they use to filter the milions of unconfirmed spam emails that they recieve each day.
