Are you talking about telomeres? There are long segmeted repeats at the end of chromosomes called telomeres that prevent DNA material that codes for actual relevant info. to not be lost b/c every time your DNA is copied, genetic material is lost.
Thus, with telomeres, this doesn't happen.

A cell needs to copy its DNA so when it reproduces it's daughter cells can have the same information. DNA really just splits apart and rebuilds the two halfs into two full DNA molecules from the nucleotides floating nearby. since the complementing nucleotides will form an exact copy, you end up with two strands of DNA.

To carry on the "life" or the cell. Before an organism dies it reprocreates itself. As all cells eventually die. Like humans, they procreate so that (the elb of life continues) and humanity does not cease to exist. Thats why sex sells, the young buy into it that "sex" is a "big" thing to achieve/score. Then bingo, they become parents. Willing or unwillingly the next generation has been created because of "young and dumb" behavior. Unlike humans, cells they are doing what comes naturally, what they were programed to do.
