The big black ants that sometimes get in the house are called carpenter ants. They live on damp wood and other things in the ground. They do have large pinchers and can be aggressive. They typically come from the trees or mulch around the house and have found a path inside. If you can find out where they are coming in - do your best to block them off and spray bug killer (look at the label for carpenter ants) consistently around the area. It may not hurt to call an exterminator and have him spray the grounds, since this is usually where they originate. If budget is an issue, they do carry lawn ant killer at local stores.
