Our garden is basically grass that has been waterlogged and then dug up by a naughty dog! And is now a muddy mess with bits of grass here and there. How do we go about making it into a nice lawn for the kids to play on?

Quick or slow?

Turn the garden over (then possibly put in drainage), add plenty of sand. Rake flat and remove stones, big weeds etc.

then Quick: lay turf.

or Slow: Seed with grass seed and wait, weed, re-seed, cut and re-seed.

Any help?

I had a similar problem, except my "lawn" included several varieties of weeds. I levelled the whole thing with top soil during the winter (simply tossing the topsoil over everything and filling the dents with some compacting) when the vegetation started growing during the summer Ikept mowing it short with a "weed-eater" i.e handheld nylon string mower - weeds and all. The grass overtook the weeds, a bit of nitrogen based fertilizer and it is now perfect. Hope this helps.

Buy packets of wild flower and just throw them into spaces. Cut when they grow, next year sow grass seed.
