The government is made up of people just like you and me so whats not to say that their not making money from investing in oil.
It will stop when the investors in the Big Oil game feel that they have made enough money from all of us (which may never change). Have you noticed that gas prices will get high, people complain, they drop it down a little so people forget about it, then raise it right back up. The only thing I dont understand is hpw can these comapnys make such huge PROFITS? Im not talking about total sales or whatever, this is PROFIT. If gas is so expensive why are the gas comapnies allowed to make such profit. I think the government should get invlolved. They get involved with almost everything else...

First of all, if the government were to get involved it would take them at least 2-3 years of studies to decide the issue and then they would decide the answer to the problem of high gas prices is to increase the taxes on gas. Then those politicians who are up for re-election will promise to fight the tax increase if only you vote for them.
We had this problem in America back in the early 70's. The government regulated the price of gas and the oil companies cut back on research and development and exploratory drilling to save money and as a result we now have to few refineries and too few oil wells causing high gas prices. The government cannot control supply and demand. But we can; as the price of gas rises people use less gas causing a surplus and the prices drop. It is up to us to conserve. It's not that hard. If everyone in America used just 1 gallon less per year then we would save over 2 million gallons per year.
