how do I know if my system has enough water in the boiler? I have 1 story with basement. I know how to open "cocks" but at night I hear "gurgling" in the pipes and the heating bill was too high for sure, please help!

boilers are a closed system. There is a pressure valve that regulates the water in the system, if the pressure drops in the system, usually because of a leak, it allows more water in. Should be in the 15 - 18 pound range, check for a gauge somewhere, it may be inside the boiler, remove the front cover. The gurgling you hear is air in the system, it needs to be bled out.
