Do you mean how long does it take to get charged?
Depends on the laptop, generally full charge in 1-2 hours.
Or how long does the laptop take to lose charge?
Also variable... anywhere from 2 to 6+ hours. Of course over time the laptop generally loses charge quicker.

Laptop Batteries
You should look for a laptop with a lithium battery, because lithium batteries tend to hold their charge longer than nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride batteries, and have no memory effect. Whatever battery you choose, you will need a minimum of two hours of battery life; but of course, four hours is even better. The battery life varies depending on what type of rechargeable battery you have and how you use your computer (frequent use of disk drives consumes a lot of battery power).
What's the difference between battery types? Lets start with the best, Lithium-Ion batteries are the latest and the best. They hold more power and have a longer life. Nickel-Metal Hydride are older technology and are far less efficient. Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) about as old as the ark and probably as useful to a laptop. In order to keep Ni-Cad batteries in good working order one should completely run them down before recharging.
