I always use earthly colors.. such as brownish colors... gold... light greens look so nice as well... light pinks look good... gray looks really nice and my personally favorite... purple... i think if you use a dark purple to make the smokey effect.. it looks soo great! then you use the microviolet fluid liner by MAC and you are done!! you will look great!
P.S. do not try dark blues.. they make your eyes look alot smaller... you could try pretty light blue shades....

I have blue eyes but I have friends who have the same colors as you. Depending on how wild you want to get...I know that Greens, light browns, and paler colors always look good on people with brown eyes (esp. if there is a little green in your brown eyes) I would check out some more earthy colors as well as....pinks? Depends on how much you like pink. I typically use three colors of eyeshadow at once (light color on brow bone, pinker shade in the middle, darkest shade on the lid) but if you are looking for something plain and simple just to give you a little bit of glimmer, I would go for a vanilla color (possibly creme eyeshadow) I use that on less makeup days. For liner I would say either brown or just plain old black. Since you have fair skin, I would stay away from loud color blushes...go neutral. I use a bronzer as opposed to blush on regular days. With lipstick and gloss...use your good judgement :)

I agree w/ one of the earlier answers. The most important factor in choosing makeup colors is determining your skin tone. Here's how to determine your skin tone.
Warm skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear green.
2. Gold jewelry is more flattering than silver jewelry.
Cool skin tone:
1. Look at inner wrist - veins will appear blue.
2. Silver jewelry is more flattering.
Look at your wardrobe and hold up a few items in different colors against your face. Which ones appear more flattering to you in a mirror with natural sunlight? Which colors are you drawn to?
If you are not sure, ask one or two trusted friends or family members who's style you admire.

Blue eye make up is said to make brown eyes stand out. However, since you have fair/olive skin, it will be a bit tricky finding an eye shadow that won't look too dark or muddy.
I'd start with a dark navy eyeliner for daytime and a dark blue/black mascara for evening if you want to experiment with blue.
Personally, I prefer to stick w/ neutrals (soft taupe, soft, smokey violet or a slightly shimmery champagne).

You want to pick a color that is a complementary color, opposite on the color wheel. This will make your eye color pop and brighten up your eyes as well. For brown eyes I would reccomend greens and purples with a dark brown liner or black for nighttime effect.

Check it out on a colour wheel and see which colour is directly opposite it, I also have brown eyes and have checked it up and the result is blue. This shows that blue eyeliner (I'm not sure about eyeshadow though, still a bit skeptical about it) is the best to bring out brown eyes. I have tried it and it works. It makes my brown eyes brown er and it makes the whites of my eyes brighter.
Hope this has helped.

For eyelines use Black or brown, eyeshadows use Greens, Purples, Browns, Burgendy, Plum (uses different shades of these colours like light-dark at the same time). Don't use Bright colours because being Fair will make you look horriable they are manly for dark skin people.
Hope this Helps

Brown eyes can use about any color
best are purple, grey, blue, and green
gold is for a softer look, along with white or pink
Apply liner (black) to the lower lids and the outer upper lids.
Apply mascara to upper (and, if you wish lower) lashes.

Just remember that you shouldnt co-ordinate your eyeshadow with your clothes, instead match it with your eyes!!! alot of people dont realize this. For a olive skin, use grey on the eylid, plum on the outer edge of the eye, and pink under the eyebrow. You can also get away with burnt oranges, golds, grey, plum and pink tones. Hope this works for you !!!
