Depends on what the employment law in your state is. If your state is an "at will" state, then you can be fired for any reason or no reason, as long as it's not a bad reason (discriminatory). Hope this helps! :)

Yes- Unfortunate but, that's the way it usually goes. Your employer has no responsibility to tell you they are going out of business. Closing the doors for the last time is never an easy thing to do, and sometimes is a last minute decision. If they gave no indication they were struggling, they were probably hoping against hope that it would magically turn around.
Besides, even if it were illegal, what did you plan on doing, suing them? It's pretty obvious they don't have any money.

As noted, if the state is a work at will state, it is not illegal to give no notice. You should be aware that when a business closes its doors, they are required to issue W-2s within 30 days of closing instead of at the end of the year.

It' not illegal to decide to close a business, for any reason. You may want to check with your state's labor dept. regarding what, if any, notice is required. I wouldn't bother though, I would just get another job. The main reason for a business closing (especially restaurants) is not enough income to keep it open any longer. So it's just time to move on.

You and your fellow coworkers have not any criminal action to take because it somewhat is carefully criminal for the owner to close the eating place down with out any style of be conscious in any respect. fortunate to your coworkers (yet not you) they could qualify for unemployment meaning they are in a position to assist their households on an income till they are able to looking a job.

Yes, but it STINKS! That happened to me too. The owner sold to a new owner, and no one knew it. We all came to work and it was staffed by new people. I think there SHOULD be some kind of reprocussion for doing that to employees, myself...but most places are 'at will' employers. They can do anything they want.

maybe they got shut down by the health department. then they had no chance to tell the people upfront...., but if you just walked up to a closed restaurant in which you have worked that would be very strange if they would not have even called you before coming to work

No, unless you were under some kind of contract. It's possible that it was shut down for health or environmental problems. Make sure you have a contact to get your final paycheck.

That depends on the state's employment laws. Colorado, for example, is an "at will" state, meaning you can quit or be terminated at will...no notice at all. If that is part of an agreement they sigh upon employment, or the state laws...then unfortunately, yes.

It closed. What do you expect it to do? Give you two weks notice so you leave before they close for another job. Sorry it happened to you but that's life.
