the tanning beds i have always gotten in have uva lights that give off purple-ish blue-ish color..but the one i went into today was just just the color of a regular light and didnt give off any color. i still got tan but i was just wondering if it meant the lights were better or what.

That's weird...the lights in a tanning bed remind me of a black light, only you can still see or whatever.

I'll be watchin for answers :)

Your light may have been made very much like a regular fluorescent light but with the special glass used for tanning lights. It may have had less UV because some would be stopped by the phosphor coating that makes it look white. UV light is present in all fluorescent lights, it just needs special glass to let it out.

The sun emits all wavelengths.
Black light is in the UV-A region. It goes deepest into the skin but does not have the energy to cause a tan.
UV-B is the mid-range which causes burning. It does not go as deep as UV-A.
UV-C is the shortest wavelength. It does not go deep at all. It does not even go far in air. However, it has a lot of energy and kills cells that it falls on. It is often used to sterilize surfaces and water.

Whats it matter? Tanning isnt good for anybody anyways. Tanning bed release UV-B waves and the sun emits UV-A. The only difference is that UV-B penetrates deeper within your skin...how lovely would that be to get caner deeper then on the surface!
