I've had two very healthy boys sleeping that way!
Here's how I did it to be most comfortable. I took an extra comforter that we weren't using, and bundled it up next to me. It kept me from turning too far onto my stomach because I would use it kind of like a wedge. I'd stuff it under my belly, but then I could lean on it and it would support me, and I still felt like I was almost sleeping on my tummy.

I wondered the exact same thing, and until recently I slept in the same position. Now of course I'm so big that even if I tried to sleep slightly on my stomach it would be pretty much impossible! Lol
I found the following article that should help reassure you :)
"While sleeping on your side (especially the left side) is most commonly recommended, you can also sleep safely on your stomach. Questions about sleep safety during pregnancy generally revolve around optimal blood flow and nutrient supply to the placenta and the fetus. A main concern is the weight of your enlarging uterus pushing down directly on the large veins that return blood to your heart. The most notable effects can occur when women lie flat on their back. If you experience such problems as shortness of breath or heartburn, especially in the third trimester, propping yourself up with pillows may be helpful. Remember: Comfort is important, too! "

Certainly, it will relieve your spine from the pressure. Laying on your stomach is a no-no of course and laying on your back just presses the weight on your spine, which isn't exactly very good when you try to get some sleep. There is nothing wrong with laying on your side.
You can always use a supporting pillow at your back and below your belly as well. That sometimes helps.

Other than the baby kicking back in response try not to sleep that way. I personally use a pregnancy wedge to remind me that I'm to sleep on my side. If you are not having the means to buy that just use a rolled up towel or a pillow something to remind you. And try to remember you are soon done with the pregnancy and can soon go back to the "comfort" sleep

I'm not a dr. this is just my personal experience. I have had two pregnancies and found this the most comfortable position. If you worried about leaning to hard on tummy lay directly on side and prop pillow under tummy to avoid that weighed down feeling

I would think that this is ok, your baby will let you know and as long as your comfortable. There were times late in my pregnancy that I slept on my back and woke up to turn over. Everything was fine......

thats how I sleep and I just started my 9th month. I think that as long as youre comfortable, its fine. Your body will tell you when something is wrong. Get as much sleep as you can b/c in the 8th and 9th month, its super hard to sleep. Good luck and God bless!
