I am in a training class for a new job. I am 24 and have been working in the same field for over 6 years so nothing we are learning is new to me. There is this snobby little 18 year old girl whose only experience stems from volunteering at a nursing home a few times in high school and painting some fingernails but she thinks she knows it all. She apparently tries to compete with me and everyone else has even noticed and she gets really nasty when I know the answers or when I receive perfect scores on tests or when I help out other coworkers by teaching them how to take blood pressures or other skills needed for the job. I know what I am doing, so people ask me for help alot. Why are young girls so mouthy and just plain nasty? She thinks she is better than everyone else and smarter but she has been making herself look like a fool. Why are girls like this??? Is it self esteem? She tends to ACT just like who ever she's talking to. Like a little chameleon. I think she has esteem issues.

Also, I am in no way saying that everyone that age is the same. I am just not a competitive person. I just do the best I can. where as today when she made a mistake, she complained that they made her go back and do it right.

I'm 19, but I definitely don't act like I know it all... that girl just wants to look cool.. just ignore her... when she sees that her nasty know-it-all attitude doesnt get a rise out of anyone. she will stop...
shes probably just jealous... either that or shes intimidated by you... but dont let her not feel intimidated... you're older, and smarter and she has to realize that

Well, she just sounds like a betch... don't judge all of us by how she acts! I'm 18, and I work in an office with older people who do know more than I do, and I'm very respectful of the fact that they might have something to teach me.
She probably is just trying to prove that she is mature enough for this job... unfortunately, it sounds like she is failing.

It sounds like both of you just don't get along. She also sounds like she might have some insecurities that she is over-compensating for, such as fear of failure or fear of being "second" to someone else. It sounds like you are confident in your knowledge, so my advice is to let it go. Vent to your friends and move on once the course is over. Good luck!

you answered it yourself, because she is young! Even right out of highschool they are still in that clicky mode. I also think that there are so many bad things out there for a young girl's image they don't know who the hell they are supposed to be. Ever seen Mean Girls? Most of my daughter's friends think that click is the greatest thing ever... stupid I know.
