Three versions of the song have appeared on the various Billboard charts, all of them charting in 1951. They were recorded by The Weavers, Vaughan Monroe, and Percy Faith w/ Burl Ives. The Weaver's version was the most popular, reaching #2 on the Pop charts.

"On Top of Old Smoky" is a traditional folk song of the United States which, as recorded by The Weavers, reached the pop music charts in 1951.
Pete Seeger did the arrangement.

Burl Ives, the actor. He did the vocals and percy faith and his orchestra backed him in 1951. It did NOT make the top 20.
