I need a solution that allows me to backup any selected files/folders/drives from all of the following on a wired and wireless home network:
- Laptop running Windows XP Pro
- Computer running Windows XP Pro
- Computer running Windows Vista Home Premium

to a Windows XP Professional computer located on the network via ethernet.
These backups will most likely be setup differently on each computer, for example the computer running Vista will need to backup every night, but the others would be once a week.
Altermately l am looking for some kind of software solution and preferably not to expensive!

I think that the best choice for you is True Image. True Image can backup files/folders/partitions/disks and it is compatible with both XP and Vista. Also it has scheduler and it can execute both differential and incremental backups.

The classic solution is Veritas (now Symantec) Backup Exec. It's the do-all, end-all of small/medium sized business backup solutions. It's a bit pricey, though.
If you have a network device, such as an external hard drive you can share, you can use Windows NT backup on each machine, selecting the files/folders you want, and pointing them to backup to a network location. Much less elegant, but free.

I can't but agree with the post above. True Image is the best solution for your 3 systems. It has a scheduler that can backup your data as often as you can and it can save backup images via network. True Image is the best choice!

magnificent to work out someone worried about backing up their documents. that is way a lot less puzzling to fix from a backup than attempt to recuperate lost documents. I continually say, "If this is something you would sense extremely undesirable about in case you lost it, you better have a backup." a fantastic loose backup software is Comodo Backup. It gained't create the demanding force image yet can backup all files and folders on your pc. Has a synchronization function to help save your backup up for this reason far. Has a scheduler function to do regularly occurring scheduled backups. And best of all - this is loose! It does a fantastic pastime for me.
