A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. But maybe because I read them about the same time.

A little bit reminds me of Fade by Robert Cormier. Both have narrators recalling an earlier time, where they felt out of place or saw things they shouldn't have.

The four sisters in a religious family reminds me a bit of Little Women. I know it's odd, but three of the four sisters in Little Women died before their time and were raised by very religious parents in a very small circle of friends. (I may be confusing the Little Women characters with the actual Alcott sisters, though).

I think its a really unique book. I can't really think of any that it resembles, especially with it's unique style and point of view.
