It looks like we may have a 9 hour daytime layover in Amsterdam in May. Is there anything we can do with our luggage to avoid carring it all over the city. Also what would you reccomend for a family on a budget and less than a day.

Probably a good thing would be to get a cheap hotel with a shower to freshen up, something close to the airport with a quick bus transfer. Maybe have a 2-3 hour sleep and spend 4 hours wandering around. I've provided some suggested directory links below.

Then take a train in to the City - which is very clean and efficient.

The best way to research suggestions for the day is to visit the official Tourism site for Amsterdam/Netherlands on the access link below.

Find a locker, preferably in the airport, don't be afraid to ask, everyone (almost) in HOlland, and definately everyone working at the airport speaks English. If not at the airport, then at Centraal Station in A'dam.

With only a few hours there, just walk around. Maybe walk up to the Rijksmuseum and back, but with your time, it might not be worth spending a few hours in a museum. A'dam is a lovely city, and walking is good exercise, and free!

I would suggest having some Indonesian food, its really good!

store your luggage at the airport (they have a lot of lockers there) and take the train to Amsterdam (20 min.)

Asking anyone to help you won't be much of a problem, most dutch are nice :D and speak english well.

If you only have a couple of hours i shouldnt visit anything, just walk around the town (plenty to see) a visit to the red-light district i don't recomend (even if your kids are old enough, not really anything to see) just walk around, sniff the athmosfere and watch people, sould be fun for the couple of hours you have.

They will have many options for luggage storage at the airport. As for things to do for a family, the Van Gough museum is there www.vangoghmuseum.nl , also depending on ages the heiniken brewery does tours as well.
