Hi
I'd repost this under Home->Education-Homework Help. Many , many school curriculums include Macbeth in thier subjects and assign readings as homework. You’ll find a much more ready, and willing to answer, audience under this category!

:) I just read Macbeth, actually, so I'm glad you asked.
Macbeth's character is, ironically, never actually "full" of human kindness. Rather, he is more of a... snake that hasn't bitten anybody yet.
Macbeth is the protagonist of the play. At first, he seems to be doing good by himself and his peers, i.e. he helps King Duncan to win in the war. However, soon after Macbeth kills Duncan because his dreaded "ambition" drives him into the path of wrong.
Macbeth is simply following what is his nature. However, it is debatable whether or not Macbeth is ambitious by nature, or if it is the prophecy of the witches that plants the seed of his own destruction.
Macbeth changes from SEEMINGLY being a good man to being "an abhorred tyrant" in that slowly, he betrays everyone who has EVER trusted him. First, he kills Duncan after he invites the king to stay in his castle, and he even frames Duncan's guards for the murders.
Second, he has Banquo killed off, and even tries to murder his son, Fleance, though Fleance "flies" and gets away from the 3 hired assassins.
Third, when the end of the play has almost arrived, and Macbeth is battling Macduff at Dunsinane, even the people who have stuck by him through his tyranny flee away from him because the soldiers of Macbeth's own army "abhor" him and think him a "tyrant".
Hope I shed some light on this!

If the paper is due really soon, you should check out sparknotes.com. Not only can they give you a line by line modern day translation, but you can also get general a general synopsis and an analysis of the play. Personally, I find the analysis section really helpful when trying to write essays.
If you have more time before it's due, you should read, or re-read Macbeth, paying special attention to the Soliloquies.

When he listened to the witches, he heard what was part of the truth, and he believed it as the whole truth, he believed that he could not be harmed, that there were no consequences for his actions; the gloves came off. Also his wife was greedy and pushed him, and she killed to become queen, even though she did not have the strength to face her actions, and she fell apart. So if you base your essay on those two things: he was lead to believe that he could not be harmed, and was supported by his wife in his evil endeavors . . . Skim the play again with those things in mind, then your essay will write itself.

He commits regicide, has a woman and child killed, and betrays his friends and country just for power...
