Too broad of a question.
In the worst case scenario...if its a critical piece of information that you did not incorporate into you business process....then it could cost you your entire business. (Lawsuit, non-compliance, loss of market position, Bankruptcy).
If you are talking data collection it is who is reading, scanning important trade, magazine & news articles to find relevant content.
Then see how this affects your organization and scaan and forwards it appropraite Department. The cost then become subscriptions, scanners and the loss of productivity of workers who are constantly reading something to circulate and the time spent to incorporate this information into your processes.

That depends a lot on how static the information.
If the information is something static, like "We need oxygen to live" there is no cost in keeping it up to date, but if you have a page that states that it will give you the current mix of chemicals in the air, you will have to have it updated daily, which will cost you the time to do it.
Of course, you can make dynamic web sites that will update themselves with the latest information, but doing that will have a larger setup cost.
