I like to sing to myself every now and again, because it helps me to stay calm, and relax when everything is well. I also seem to find myself thinking out loud once in a while. I enjoy explicit lyrics in my music because it shows how the artist(s) wanted it originally. I ask because my friends say that it's bad, and i should stop, but the last time i lost my music, i nearly lost my mind with anger and fustration. I guess i'm a case of music soothing the beast... I asked someone this before and they say it means you're lonely. But, i want a second opinion.

There is nothing wrong with that. If singing relaxes you and makes you feel good, sing your head off. My mom used to sing like a bird when she cleaned house. As far as talking to yourself, heck , I do it all the time. My reason is that if I have a lot on my mind or lots to do, i say it out loud to myself so that I don't forget. I even talk to my dogs, and ask them questions like , "where did i put my purse" ( no i am not crazy!)

You are absolutely N O R M A L and you should be honored for singing aloud! Now, be careful of those lyrics that may offend others - sing those words in your car or in the shower out of respect for those around you.
I sing all the time - even at my desk in a computer company. I get caught often and I don't care because it is who I am. If I really need to belt something I go get in my car and take a break, or go for a walk to sing to the traffic going by.
Be yourself and celebrate the music in you!

You should do what you want. Your friends are not running your life. They may care for you, but they really should mind their own business. They have their own lives to run. The problem with this country today is people being nosy and trying to control everything in their surroundings. I talk to myself, so what? It doesn't mean you're crazy or lonely. Sometimes the best person to listen to is yourself! lol.

I agree that the general social perception of people who talk to themselves is that they are lonely or in some way unstable. However I often catch myself talking to myself and know that I have plenty of friends and don't see a problem with being 'unstable' so what others think of me doesn't really come into it. If singing and talking to yourself makes you happy and keeps you 'sane' then hang on to it and don't worry what others think.

I love singing to myself.... I have a very ordinary voice, so its probably the best.
I like singing in the car.
When I have long trip, I put pavorrotti on and sing so loud. It helps me not get bored and helps with concentration.
And I reckon everyone talks to themselves, quietly though.
Go for it. Enjoy.

Nothing wrong with singing or humming to yourself. If people don't like it, tough
luck. Don't pay attention to your friends. I do it myself. I'm just happy in my own little world and if someone doesn't like it that's there problem.
