Snorkeling is a water activity that let's you paddle indefinitely on the surface, while looking underwater. You wear flippers and a facemask, just like a SCUBA diver. You breath through a snorkel tube, which is about 15 inches (42 cm) tall. By paddling your feet and hands, you stay at the surface of the water as you look down at the sights below the surface. It helps tremendously if you wear a buoyant vest -- that way, all your paddling is used to propel you around instead of keeping you at the surface. However, you can snorkel without a buoyant vest.

I've snorkeled several times and enjoyed it very much.
