Well....
Start with Abba because it's upbeat, of course:
Waterloo- ABBA
Sunshine of your Love- Cream
Hush- Deep Purple
Come Dancing- The Kinks
Me and Bobby McGee- Janis Joplin
Tangerine- Led Zeppelin
or
That's the Way- Led Zeppelin
Of course-
Black Water- Doobie Brothers
Going Mobile- The Who
Show Me the Way- Peter Frampton
Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd
Tom Sawyer- Rush
Lay it on the Line- Triumph
Goodbye Stranger- Supertramp
Since Your Gone- The Cars
Money Talk- The Pretenders
Refugee- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Getting in Tune- The Who

Sorry if these are sort of generic, I was doing it off the top of my head.
There are more- of course- if wanted !
Good Luck

I would categorize them in order of rock genres

For instance: I wouldnt put a nazareth song back to back with a zeppelin song

Grab a pen and paper, list all the groups, then put them in a music category......rock,soft rock, psychedelic, folk, hard rock.

Then list a few best songs from each band

Then I would burn multipe CD's according to the music categories
