It's all worth it for that one endearing smile, or the love in their eyes when they look at you. When they do something totally unexpected it brings tears to your eyes, because they have shown love or compassion or empathy and you know you taught them that. For that one liner they say at a really inapropriate moment that makes you laugh. For the hug they need when they are hurt or sad, becuase only your hug can make them feel better.
And although at times they may seem like ungrateful brats, they are still that little tiny baby you held in the middle of the night, sleep deprived and tired but soothing them till they slept. And remember underneath that little attitude they get they are still the lovely child you raised, its just a phase. keep reminding yourself how little and tiny they were and how they needed you. And remind them.

i totally agree ,i spend my life trying to please my 3 girls,i think they had the right idea years ago by basically letting them no who was in charge and when they stepped out of line they got a clip round the ear and so were reluctant to do it again.nowadays there is so much emphasis on how to be the perfect parent that children know they have the upper hand.they have more control now than they ever did,you just have to look at the schools to know that ,even the teachers are having problems with disapline.i think the more you give them the more they expect.so if you are not worried about keeping up with the jones my advice would be GIVE LESS and you will GET MORE!

You sound like the brat to me! Children learn by example.

Not all of us do. It takes teaching and learning and instilling proper values by parents to make them continue to be grateful and not bratty. Your kids must feel great about themselves knowing that you, their parent and ROLE MODEL think of them as unfgrateful and brats.
I am grateful for everything I have and get. I thank everyone for everything. I send thank you notes after I recieve a gift, even if I completely hate it. So, we are all ujngrategul brats? Oh, did I mention I am 17.

I don't damn well know. You'd think that we would learn from other peoples mistakes, but no we have to find out for ourselves - a bit like our teenagers I suppose.
And someday they will be parents themselves with teenage children, and we will be the grandparent sitting smiling that knowing smile and nodding our heads. Thinking to ourselves - Oh payback time!

Why do you allow them to be brats? Discipline them and they won't act that way. You had children because you got pregnant. lol I'm sure they love you, they just are not acting like it right now.

My 17 year old girl can be a pain in the bum, and could turn cream sour, with the way she can look at you sometimes. I don't always like her but I will always love her!!!!

yOU HAD CHILDREN - IHOPE THROUGH A PLANNED RELATIONSHIP IF UNPLANNED -THEY WERE STILL BORN THROUGH PARTICIPATING IN A SEXUAL ACT THAT MOST PEOPLE CALL "LOVE MAKING" - SO IN EFFECT -YOU HAD YOUR CHILDREN THROUGH "LOVE"

THEY MAY GIVE ANXIETY AND A WHOLE RANGE OF PROBLEMS TO YOU BUT REMEMBER YOUR OWN CHILDHOOD PLEASE - (I DEFY ANYONE TO SAY THEY'VE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS) EVEN WHEN A CHILD SAYS THEY HATE - ITS ONLY TEMPER- WE ALL LOVE OUR PARENTS!
SOMETIMES CHILDREN CAN NEED A GUIDING HAND INTO MATURITY -WHICH ITSELF CAN BE A LONG TIME COMING.
i DON'T KNOW YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES AND WILL NEVER TELL ANYONE THAT MY WAY IS THE WAY TO WALK BUT I DO KNOW THAT LOVE CAN BE A VERY STRONG WEAPON TO WIELD WHEN THE RIGHT PURPOSE IS TAKEN UP!
