I applied for tanf and got it, but I also worked part time, I thought it was ok since I did not make much, but now they say I have an overpayment. I thought I told them I worked part time, but they said i did not.

You can work and during the first few months they disregard most of it. If you had submit your paychecks in the first place you probably would not have owe. The may be nice and change that once you send that to them. If you had told them previously, the would've put your benefits on hold without receiving verification. There are all kinds of things you need to do. Even if you are no longer working, there are forms to be filled out, or they will assume you are working. You will not go to jail.

Give them a call and work out a repayment schedule to pay back the overpayment. You won't go to jail if you are honest and make restitution of the problem.

You should be all good if you only worked part time to supplement your income. The government is always trying to screw with somebody. But they can waste 10 Billion in Iraq and say oops im sorry.

You could technically go to jail, but more than likely they will garnish any present and future wages including tax returns until it is paid off. They can also barr you from receiving any more aid.
