mostly its hormones,
from your birth you have a steady relese of hormones (i think growth hormones come from the pituitary gland, but dont take my word on that) which then peaks at certain times, mostly adolensence, telling your brain to instruct organs to release energy and increase cell division. This is why you may also feel hungry and put on weight before a growth spurt, your cells are storing lots of energy.
but the extent of growth is entirely determent on your genes unless you take hormone suppliments. If your family is tall you may wish to take vitamin and mineral tablets, and make sure your diet contains plenty of iorn and calcium to help with the process.

I hope this helps

There are no other factors. Your height is predetermined by your genes just like your hair and eye color. The only way to change it is to wear heels or have your legs broken and pulled apart so you may grow more bone. This method I do not recommend.

Another factor is diet.
What you eat and how much you eat can affect your height.
Foods rich in vitamins and minerals are good for you.
Calcium builds strong bones and teeth, but it would necessarily make you taller (you can give it a shot though).

Good nutrition and exercise helps, but it's mostly determined by genes. You can't change anything about that, just try to keep your food at good levels and exercise regurarly.

There isn't anything else. Not eating a proper diet can make you shorter, but nothing makes you taller than you are to be.
