Here is what I found on the internet I couldnt find anything about causes of one ventricle and what could happen if they dont develop. You should call your doctor and ask him what is going to happen if it doesnt eventually develop.
One of a system of four communicating cavities within the brain that are continuous with the central canal of the spinal cord.
The four ventricles consist of the two lateral ventricles, the third ventricle and the fourth ventricle:
•Lateral ventricles: The lateral ventricles are in the cerebral hemispheres. Each lateral ventricle consists of a triangular central body and four horns. The lateral ventricles communicate with the third ventricle through what is called the interventricular foramen (opening).
•The third ventricle is a median (midline) cavity in the brain that is bounded by the thalamus and hypothalamus on either side. Anteriorly (in front) the third ventricle communicates with the lateral ventricles and posteriorly (in back) the third ventricle communicates with what is called the aqueduct of the midbrain (or the aqueduct of Sylvius).
•The fourth ventricle is the most inferior (lowest) of the four ventricles of the brain. It extends from the aqueduct of the midbrain to the central canal of the upper end of the spinal cord with which it communicates by the two foramina (openings) of Luschka and the foramen (opening) of Magendie.
The ventricles are filled with cerebrospinal fluid, which is formed by structures called choroid plexuses located in the walls and roofs of the ventricles.

The entire surface of central nervous system is bathed by a clear, colorless fluid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The CSF is contained within a system of fluid-filled cavities called ventricles.
Ok..so there is CSF flowing through the ventricles...what does the CSF do? The CSF has several functions including:
1. Protection: the CSF protects the brain from damage by "buffering" the brain. In other words, the CSF acts to cushion a blow to the head and lessen the impact.
2. Buoyancy: because the brain is immersed in fluid, the net weight of the brain is reduced from about 1,400 gm to about 50 gm. Therefore, pressure at the base of the brain is reduced.
3. Excretion of waste products: the one-way flow from the CSF to the blood takes potentially harmful metabolites, drugs and other substances away from the brain.
4. Endocrine medium for the brain: the CSF serves to transport hormones to other areas of the brain. Hormones released into the CSF can be carried to remote sites of the brain where they may act.
So...I'm not really sure why your doctor did not explain the sonogram to you..Or maybe you didn't ask..but if you are concerned you should call back and demand an explanation...

Hi, I really dont know what the answer is. But I think I am in the same boat as you.
I am 32 weeks and I have been carrying a baby that I don't know will survive after birth.
I was told at 16 weeks that they could not see the baby's cerebellum or thalamus. But his head is really low and pressed against my cervix and they said maybe thats why. But I have had many ultrasounds after this and they all say the same thing, that they cant find it. There is nonthing you can do but wait until after birth where they do an xray or ultrasound of the head. This is the hard part. Please if you need someone to talk to, email me at twysara@aol.com

I strongly suggest you see another doctor, because I'm 99% sure that ventricles are in the heart, not the brain.

aren't ventricles in the heart?
Sonagrams aren't 100% and baby isn't yet fully developed.
I think all you can do is wait it out mamma.

Umm, the brain has FOUR ventricles. Something isn't right. Perhaps you misheard? You need to speak with your doc in detail.

My son was tested for spinal lucency to detect if he has Downs, couldn't be that could it?
